Smokin’ Aces Slopestyle Competition Returns to Big Sky Resort

Montana Living — The Montana Slopestyle Championship are at Big Sky Resort March 25.

This year, the event will kick off with a rail jam Friday evening in the Swifty 2.0 park with the Championship slopestyle event to follow on Saturday. Smokin’ Aces Events Director Billy Marcial expects more than 70 competitors at this year’s event.
“This is our fourth year putting on an event at Big Sky,” said Marcial. “The terrain park crew at Big Sky Resort does an outstanding job, and we are excited to kick off our event with a rail jam Friday. It’s a great way to build excitement.”
Last winter, Schweitzer Mountain Resort, Whitefish Mountain Resort and Big Sky Resort played host to the 2016 Smokin’ Aces Tour, a three-stop freestyle competition series. This winter, the events have been narrowed to two state championship events at Big Sky Resort and Schweitzer Mountain Resort.

According to Marcial, the move towards a festival-style event allows more skiers and snowboarders to compete.

The cost to enter the slopestyle event is $40 for the Open Division and $35 for all other divisions. The competition will take place in the Swifty Terrain Park under the Swift Current chairlift. Preregistration is available online and there will be registration on the day of the event in the Mammoth Room from 8:30- 11:30am. Training will take place Saturday morning with the event scheduled to begin at 12:00pm.
