Race course online for Montana Governors Cup

Lacing up your sneakers and hitting the pavement for this year's Governor's Cup not only means a great day of running. You'll also be helping to provide access to health care services to Montanans across the state.

The Governor's Cup is the major fundraising event for the Caring Foundation of Montana. All race registration fees go directly to the Caring Foundation of Montana.

Caring Foundation of Montana works to ensure all Montanans have access to preventive health care services, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. Through partnerships and sponsors across Montana, Caring Foundation of Montana provides these services at low or no cost to individuals of all ages. Our efforts focus primarily on rural and frontier communities that have little or no access to health care services.

The Care Team, through our Care Van® program, has traveled more than 50,000 miles to deliver 10,000+ vaccines, health screenings, educational resources, and preventive services in 30+ Montana counties since 2014. Course preview videos of all four of Governors Cup race courses are now online. Get a feel for the new marathon and half marathon courses, or check out the changes on the 5K and 10K routes.

The marathon and half marathon courses are USATF certified, and the marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier. Both the marathon and half marathon start south of Helena in Jefferson County, eventually meeting up with our 10K course.

For the fourth consecutive year, Governor's Cup is partnering with elementary schools in Helena and the surrounding area for the Kids Marathon program.

The program promotes fitness and activity to students in grades kindergarten through fifth. Students run twice a week for six weeks, and after each session runners receive a colorful foot charm for their bracelet.

Youth who run or walk for a majority of the sessions also receive an awesome Kids Marathon shirt. That shirt is their ticket into the final mile, which is held on June 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Centennial Park in Helena. There will be a sea of orange, as kids complete their final mile and receive a unique Kids Marathon medal.

This year 13 schools are part of the program, and Governor's Cup would like to thank the teachers, school staff and volunteers at each school who take time to organize the training sessions. More than 1,700 students signed up to run or walk.

Helena schools participating include Broadwater, Central, Four Georgians, Hawthorne, Jefferson, Kessler, Rossiter, Smith, Warren and Helena Home School. Basin, Boulder, Montana City, Townsend, and Canyon Creek are schools from the surrounding area.
