College ski races coming to Big Sky

Montana State University will play host to the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association championships this week, with events at two local ski areas near Bozeman.

Montana State University will play host to the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association championships this week, with events at two local ski areas near Bozeman.

The championships serve as the regional qualifier event for athletes to advance to the NCAA championships, which will be hosted by the University of Colorado March 6–9 .

The races this weekend include 10 schools from Alaska, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. Championship races will be Feb. 23–24 at Big Sky Resort and Feb. 24–25 at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center outside of Bozeman.
The Bobcat ski teams are coming off a successful season and carry competitive rankings into the RMISA championships.

The Montana State University men’s and women’s teams are ranked fourth in the  points standings, led by the second-ranked women’s Nordic team. 
The schedule of events for the RMISA championships is below. Spectators are welcome in both locations, and results will be available at rmisaskiing.com.    

Feb. 23 – Races at Big Sky Resort

  • Women’s giant slalom: first run at 10 a.m.
  • Men’s giant slalom: first run at 10:45 a.m.

Feb. 24

  • Women’s 7.5-kilometer freestyle Nordic race: 11 a.m. (Crosscut Mountain Sports Center)
  • Men’s 7.5-kilometer freestyle Nordic race: 12:30 p.m. (Crosscut Mountain Sports Center)
  • Men’s and women’s slalom races continue (Big Sky Resort)

Feb. 25 – Races at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center

  • Men’s 20-kilometer classic Nordic race: 9:30 a.m.
  • Women’s 20-kilometer classic Nordic race: 10:45 a.m.
