Once upon a dream: A Bozeman golf course home

We all have our favorite destinations and have all dreamed of moving there permanently. Well, tucked away on the hilly greens of the Bridger Mountain foothills and just beyond the 13th hole of the Bridger Creek Golf Course, Pro Builders of Bozeman, Montana have created a contemporary Montana home, handcrafted with both rustic and modern details and enough custom touches to meet even the most stunning visions you might possess. Pro Builders is a 21-year-old family business run by Ivan, Judy and their son, Nathan Albrecht, in Bozeman, Montana. The innovation and creativity with which they build each home is displayed beautifully in this Bridger Creek Property.

The fine details of this 7400 square foot, hand-hewn, timber frame home begin before you step into the front door. A waterfall flows gently beside the stacked ledger-stone steps, creating a Zen-like setting as you wind your way onto the front porch. Here, Ivan showcases the first of his many impressive hand-crafted wood inlays—this one featuring walnut, maple, mahogany and many exotic woods such as tiger, zebra and purple heart. Ivan has access to over 170 species of exotic woods from a sawmill located in the Amazon. He displays a number of these naturally colored exotic and domestic woods in the home. The oversized front door lends warmth and interest, as Ivan crafted it in a rough fir on the outside to match the exterior siding, and in rustic maple on the inside to match the foyer trim—all of the interior doors share this ingenious characteristic.

Once inside the home, an inlaid carpet of flagstone surrounded by slate leads you into the voluminous great room. The exposed post and beam framework, some beams in excess of 65 inches in diameter, were hand cut and joined by one-inch oak pegs—using not one nail or metal plate. This same fine workmanship is evident throughout the home. Here, the circle-sawn wood floors create a warming influence. They compliment the ledger stone fireplace that was designed in a comforting log-home style, tapering up as it soars to the tongue and groove ceiling above. A custom built curved bar, with band sawed mesquite cabinets accented by fine wood inlays (crafted to match the amazing wood-inlaid rug on the dining room floor), connects the gourmet kitchen to the great room.

The details on this home are impressive, from the Venetian plaster faux-finishes in the master bedroom, the flagstone waterfall and walnut pillars in the master bath, to the stunning blue-pine finished guest rooms in the lower level and the Heinz factory reclaimed pickle-barrel dance floor in the western inspired media room. The home even features, the first of its kind in Montana, a glass and metal pneumatic elevator that runs from the loft to the basement level. Judy, Ivan and Nathan have left no stone unturned in designing and constructing this incredible Montana masterpiece.
