Montana students awarded scholarships

MISSOULA – Students at the University of Montana received $5 million in scholarships during the 2016-17 academic year. The following Montana students are among the recipients of more than 2,000 scholarships awarded.

ANACONDA

  • Carly Johns, an Anaconda native, recently won a $400 Community Hospital of Anaconda Scholarship and a $600 Montana Pharmacy Association Grants-In-Aid Scholarship from the UM Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Ronald and Deborah Johns.
 
  • Lisa Laslovich, a UM pharmacy student from Anaconda, recently won a $1,000 William and Helen Sullivan Scholarship. She is the daughter of Tony and Kathy Laslovich.
 
  • Jackson Wagner, a 2014 graduate of Anaconda High School, recently won a $3,000 Cordingley Scholarship and a $100 Art Jette Memorial Award from the UM School of Journalism. Wagner is a UM junior majoring in journalism. His parents are Trish and Rick Wagner of Anaconda.
 
BELGRADE
 
  • Trevor Campbell, a UM pharmacy student from Belgrade, recently won a $1,000 Skaggs School of Pharmacy Scholarship from UM. He is the son of Bobbi and Stan Campbell.
 
BIGFORK
  • Dillon Hilling, a 2014 graduate of Bigfork High School, recently won a $1,500 Montana Bankers Association 25 Year Club scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration. Hilling is a UM junior majoring in finance. He is the son of Shelley Hilling of Bigfork.
 
 
BILLINGS
  • Mari Hall, a 2014 graduate of Billings Skyview High School, won a $300 Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award in Modern Languages from the Spanish section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Hall, the daughter of Marla Hall of Billings, is a journalism major at UM.
 
  • Tyrone Moe, a UM pharmacy student from Billings, recently won a $1,100 Poe Family Scholarship in Pharmacy from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy.
 
  • Emily Murter, a UM pharmacy student from Billings, recently won a $1,000 James Wedum Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Melody and Paul Murter.
 
  • Forrest Murter, a UM pharmacy student from Billings, recently won a $400 Pharmacy Association Grants-In-Aid Scholarship and a $1,000 James Wedum Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He is the son of Melody and Paul Murter.
 
  • Lauren Parks, a UM pharmacy student from Billings, recently won a $500 Pharmacy Association Grants-In-Aid Scholarship and a $1,000 Marcia Vollmer Pharmacy Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is married to Jake Parks.
 
  • Paige Sears, a 2012 graduate of Billings Senior High School, recently won a $3,300 Marva Kirby Christian Scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration. Sears is majoring in business management, international business and anthropology with a minor in linguistics. Her parents are Elaine and Stan Sears of Boise, Idaho.
 
BOZEMAN
 
  • Lauren Astrup, a Bozeman High School graduate, recently won a $1,000 James Wedum Endowment Scholarship from the UM School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. Astrup is a graduate student in physical therapy at UM. She is the daughter of Nancy and Pete Astrup of Bozeman.
 
BUTTE
  • Natasha Harwood, a 2014 graduate of Butte High School, won a $600 Robert M. Burgess Memorial Scholarship from the German section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Harwood, a UM German major, is the daughter of Krestie Harwood of Butte.
 
  • Ashley Hughes, a UM pharmacy student from Butte, recently won a $1,300 John Bartlett Scholarship from the Montana Pharmacy Association and a $1,500 Providence Montana Health Foundation Scholarship through UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Bill and Ruth Hughes.
 
  • Ping Olson, a Butte native, recently won a $2,100 Dean Forbes Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy.
 
  • Tanner Tregidga, a UM pharmacy student from Butte, recently won a $1,000 James Wedum Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Tregidga is the son of Shannon and Todd Tregidga.
 
  • Gary Warchola, a 2005 graduate of Butte High School, won a $1,000 Montana German Heritage Scholarship from the German section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Warchola is a graduate student earning his Master of Education degree at UM. He is the son of Barbara and Darrell Price and Russell Warchola of Butte.
 
COLUMBUS
 
  • Ryan Koski, a 2015 graduate of Columbus High School, won a $500 Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award in Modern Languages from the Japanese section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Koski, a Japanese major at UM, is the son of Mike Koski and Lorrie Henrie-Koski of Columbus.
 
DEER LODGE
 
  • Daley Snell, a Deer Lodge native, recently won a $1,300 Alkire-Rutherford Scholarship and an $800 Sidney J. Coffee Scholarship from the UM College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences. Snell is the daughter of Kristi Rydeen and Stephen Snell.
 
EKALAKA
 
  • Cory Lovec, an Ekalaka native, recently won a $1,000 Lyle and Shirley Glascock Scholarship in Pharmacy from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He is the son of Patricia and Steven Lovec.
 
FLORENCE
 
  • Michael Finlay, a Florence native, recently won a $1,000 Albertsons Companies Scholarship from the UM Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He is the son of Jane and Melvin Finlay.
 
FORT SHAW
 
  • Karen Leonardson, a Fort Shaw native, recently won a $1,000 Albertsons Companies Scholarship from the UM Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Emelia Leonardson.
 
FRENCHTOWN
 
  • Holly Jacobs, a 2013 Frenchtown High School graduate, won a $500 Missoula Noon Rotary Club Scholarship Endowment from UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Jacobs is a senior at UM majoring in music and German. She is the daughter of Steve and Rachel Jacobs of Frenchtown.
 
  • Victoria Stavish, a 2012 Frenchtown High School graduate, recently won a $2,500 Grace and John Lawler Pharmacy Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Stavish is a pharmacy graduate student. She is the daughter of Greg and Lori Stavish of Frenchtown.
 
GREAT FALLS
  • Caitlyn Aakre, a 2012 graduate of Charles M. Russell High School, won a $1,000 Western Montana Retired Teachers and School Personnel Association Scholarship from UM’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Sciences. Aakre, an elementary education major with a special education endorsement, is the daughter of Jodi and Garth Gabriel of Great Falls and Aaron and Anette Aakre of Nebraska.
 
  • Lindsey Godwin, a 2004 graduate of Great Falls High School, recently won a $1,000 Harold Hanson Scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration. Godwin is a UM graduate student earning her Master of Business Administration degree. Her parents are John and Susan Godwin of Great Falls.
 
  • Taylor Kumm, a 2014 graduate of Great Falls High School, recently won a $500 Dean and Laurie Mutch Bell Scholarship and a $400 Carl J. Snyder Memorial Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Kumm is a junior majoring in pharmacy at UM. She is the daughter of John and Tracy Kumm of Great Falls.
 
  • Kaylee Osentowski, a 2016 graduate of Charles M. Russell High School, recently won a $4,000 NorthWestern Energy Scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration. Osentowski is majoring in business and dance with a minor in theatre. Her parents are Mark and Tammy Osentowski of Great Falls.
 
  • Amelia Reed, a 2013 graduate of Charles M. Russell High School, recently won a $1,000 Montana Society of Certified Public Accountants Scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration.
 
  • Caitlin Soltesz, a 2015 graduate of Charles M. Russell High School, recently won a $200 Lem Price Scholarship from the UM School of Journalism. Soltesz is a UM sophomore majoring in journalism. Her parents are Robb Soltesz and Elizabeth Shea of Great Falls.
 
HAMILTON
 
  • Marcus Laurence, a 2015 graduate of Hamilton High School, won a $1,300 Louise Lilly McBride Scholarship from UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. He is a UM Japanese major and the son of Sarah Windsor of Hamilton.
 
  • D’Aarion McWhorter, a 2012 graduate of Hamilton High School, won an $850 Flightner Scholarship form UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. She is the daughter of Chet and Sheila McWhorter of West Point, Nebraska.
 
HAVRE
 
  • Shelbi Brough, a 2014 graduate of Havre High School, recently won a $1,200 Poe Family Scholarship in Pharmacy and a $1,000 James Wedum Memorial Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Brough is a UM junior majoring in pharmacy. She is the daughter of Steve and Dixie Brough of Havre.
 
  • Jordan Haas, a UM pharmacy student from Havre, recently won a $1,200 Poe Family Scholarship in Pharmacy from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Haas is the son of Steven and Janet Haas.
  • Carly Huffman, a Havre native studying pharmacy at UM, recently won a $13,300 Cardinal Health Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Dan and Kathy Huffman.
 
HELENA
 
  • Jada Cunningham, a Helena native studying pharmacy at UM, recently won a $1,000 Sidney J. Coffee Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Judy and Don Cunningham.
 
  • Michael Gantz, a UM pharmacy student from Helena, recently won a $1,250 Rosauers Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Gantz is the son of Robert and Rosanne Gantz.
 
  • Mariah Johnson, a 2013 graduate of Capital High School, won a $200 Robert M. Burgess Memorial Scholarship from the Russian section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Johnson, the daughter of Bart Johnson and Audrey Hinman of Helena, graduated with high honors and an English degree in May.
 
JEFFERSON CITY
 
  • Colton Kreamer, a UM pharmacy student from Jefferson City, recently won a $1,500 Montana Pharmacy Association Grants-In-Aid Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He is the son of Jeffrey Kreamer.
 
KALISPELL
 
  • Courtney Brockman, a 2012 Kalispell homeschool graduate, recently won a $1,200 Norman A. Johnson Memorial Award and a $1,000 Al Price Scholarship from the UM School of Journalism. Brockman is a UM senior majoring in journalism with a minor in psychology. Her parents are Rosemary and Dan Brockman of Kalispell.
 
  • Damaris Gemmer, a 2012 graduate of Glacier High School, won a $200 Powell German Scholarship from UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Gemmer earned a psychology degree at UM and is the daughter of Connie Gemmer-Allan of Kalispell.
 
  • Chris Jambor, a 1999 graduate of Flathead High School in Kalispell, recently won a $3,000 Bill and Metha Edens Scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration. Jambor is a UM graduate student earning his Master of Science degree in business analytics.
 
  • Tera Mason, a Kalispell native studying pharmacy at UM, recently won a $1,500 Arthur N. Carlson and Warner-Lambert Scholarship Endowment from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy.
 
 
LAUREL
  • Ira Li, a 2014 graduate of Laurel High School, recently won a $1,000 Albertsons Companies Scholarship from the UM Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Li is a UM junior majoring in pharmacy. He is the son of Eddie and Vivian Li of Laurel.
 
  • Morgan Luce, a UM student from Laurel, recently won a $1,000 Betty Lohn Pharmacy Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Melinda and Bill Luce.
 
LIBBY
  • Darbi Brooks, a 2013 graduate of Libby High School, recently won a $4,000 NorthWestern Energy Scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration. Brooks is a UM senior majoring in finance with a minor in music. Her parents are Tricia and Joe Brooks of Libby.
 
LIVINGSTON
 
  • Natalia Boise, a 2013 graduate of Park County High School, won an $800 Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award in Modern Languages from UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Boise, the daughter of Steven and Laura Boise, graduated in May with an anthropology degree and with high honors.
 
  • Emily Buckner, a Livingston native, won a $1,000 Beda Mattson and Charles E. Eck Family Scholarship and a $1,000 James Wedum Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Scott and Carole Buckner.
 
  • Juliana Sukut, a 2014 Livingston homeschool graduate, won a $600 Robert M. Burgess Memorial Scholarship from the Spanish section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. She is majoring in Spanish and journalism and is the daughter of Mark and Lisa Sukut of Livingston.
 
LOLO
 
  • Brenna Glidewell, a 2014 Lolo homeschool graduate, won a $612.50 Robert M. Burgess Memorial Scholarship and a $533 Rose Southworth Megee and Powell German Scholarship from the German section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. She is the daughter of Paul and Katrina Glidewell of Lolo.
 
MALTA
 
  • Brett Amestoy, a Malta native studying pharmacy at UM, recently won a $13,300 Cardinal Health Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He is the son of Edward and Jolene Amestoy.
 
  • Kevin Amestoy, a Malta native studying pharmacy at UM, recently won a $1,200 Poe Family Scholarship in Pharmacy from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He is the son of Edward and Jolene Amestoy.
 
 
MISSOULA
  • Fauna Cavaliere, a 2001 graduate of Hellgate High School, won a $400 Robert M. Burgess Memorial Scholarship from the Russian section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Cavaliere, who is majoring in Russian at UM, is the daughter of Beth and Joe Cavaliere of Missoula.
 
  • Roman Chinikaylo, a 2013 graduate of Big Sky High School, recently won a $500 Stoll Family Scholarship, in memory of Gertrude Cope Stoll, Rudy “Skip” Stoll and Theresa M. Stoll-Sholey, and a $700 John Wailes Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Chinikaylo is pharmacy major at UM. He is the son of Mikhail and Svetlana Chinikaylo of Missoula.
 
  • Scott McCue, a 2004 graduate of Sentinel High School, recently won a $3,150 Harold Hanson Scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration. McCue is a UM graduate student earning his Master of Business Administration degree. His parents are Robert and Sydney McCue of Missoula.
 
  • Autumn Garrison, a 2012 Big Sky High School graduate, won a $333 Rose Southworth Megee Scholarship from the French section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. She is the daughter of Stephanie Garrison and granddaughter of Carol Garrison-Lundberg and Craig Lundberg of Gig Harbor, Washington.
 
  • Katerina Hall, a 2014 graduate of Loyola Sacred Heart High School, recently won a $1,200 Mac Johnson Scholarship from the UM College of Humanities and Sciences. Hall is a UM junior majoring in mathematics. Her parents are Michael and Robin Hall of Missoula.
 
  • Sarah LaZerte, a 2014 Hellgate High School graduate, won an $800 Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award from the French section of UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. A psychology major and French minor, she is the daughter of Greg LaZerte and Kathleen Drake LaZerte of Missoula.
 
  • Ryan Smith, a 1998 graduate of Hellgate High School recently won a $1,400 Tutorial Scholarship from the UM College of Humanities and Sciences. Smith is a UM senior majoring mathematics.
 
  • Kelly Umbaugh, a 2012 graduate of Sentinel High School, recently won a $1,000 Skaggs School of Pharmacy Scholarship at UM. Umbaugh is a pharmacy student at UM. She is the daughter of Karen and Doug Umbaugh of Missoula.
 
MONARCH
 
  • Holly Croff, a UM pharmacy student from Monarch, won a $1,100 Roger E. Ackerly Scholarship from the UM College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences. She is the daughter of Lynn Schilling and Thomas Croff.
 
MURRAY
 
  • John Gardner, a UM pharmacy student from Murray, recently won a $4,700 Frank and Marjorie Pettinato Honorary Scholarship in Pharmacy from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He is married to Braylee Gardner.
 
PARK CITY
 
  • Michaela Gieser, a Park City native studying pharmacy at UM, recently won a $1,200 Buck Family Scholarship and a $1,000 James Wedum Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Bernie and Sherry Gieser.
 
PLAINS
 
  • Corle Morefield, a UM pharmacy student from Plains, recently won a $1,000 Pharmacy Association Grants-In-Aid Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Brandi LaVigne and Tyler Morefield.
 
  • Aubrey Quamme, a UM Japanese major from Plains, won $500 in scholarship money through the Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award and the Robert M. Burgess Memorial Scholarship from UM’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. She is the daughter of Kimberly Bates of Plains.
 
POWER
 
  • Isaiah Dunk, a 2014 graduate of Power High School, recently won a $1,750 D.J. Shults Journalism Scholarship from the UM School of Journalism. Dunk is a UM junior majoring in journalism. He is the son of Loren and Rochelle Dunk of Power.
 
RONAN
  • Joshua Krantz, a 2008 graduate of Ronan High School, recently won a $1,000 James Wedum Endowment Scholarship from the UM College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences. Krantz is a graduate student earning his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at UM. He is the son of Mike and Sandy Krantz of Ronan.
 
  • Marley Tanner, a UM pharmacy student from Ronan, recently won a $2,000 Stanley M. Reinhaus Family Foundaiton Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Tanner is the son of Gloria Quiver.
 
SHELBY
 
  • Kelly Hasquet, a 2012 graduate of Shelby High School, recently won a $1,250 Rosauers Scholarship fromUM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. Hasquet is a pharmacy graduate student and the daughter of John and Marla Hasquet of Shelby.
 
SHEPHERD
 
  • Daniel Sublette, a UM pharmacy student from Shepherd, recently won a $2,000 Stanley M. Reinhous Family Foundation Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy.
 
STANFORD
 
  • Mary Mikeson, a Stanford native studying pharmacy at UM, recently won a $2,000 Brian James Bachmeier Memorial Scholarship and a $1,000 James Wedum Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Mark Mikeson and Kelly Keim.
 
STEVENSVILLE
 
  • Nigel McCallum, a UM student from Stevensville, recently won a $2,000 Chris and Terri Halko Pharmacy Scholarship from UM’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy. He is the son of Wanda McCallum and Gary McCallum.
 
SUPERIOR
  • Heather Kelly, a 2014 graduate of Superior High School in Superior, recently won a Tutorial Scholar Award from the UM College of Humanities and Sciences. Kelly is majoring in math education at UM. Her parents are Jack and Julie Kelly of Superior.
 
WHITEFISH
  • Vivienne Akey, a Whitefish High School graduate, recently won a $1,000 Skaggs School of Pharmacy Scholarship from UM. Akey is earning a pharmacy degree at UM and is the daughter of Tom and Cheryl Hodges of Ledger.
 
  • Hailey Hall, a 2016 graduate of Whitefish High School, recently won a $6,400 Kenneth H. Davis Endowed Scholarship from the UM School of Business Administration. Hall is a majoring in business management at UM. Her parents are Ronica Hall of Kalispell.
 
  • Alexis Framness, a 2015 graduate of Glacier High School, recently won a $350 Broadcast Professional Promise Award from the UM School of Journalism. Framness is majoring in journalism.
