World choral music delights Montana music lovers

Choirs from around the world are in Missoula this week for the International Choral Festival.

The event happens every three years. Choirs and chorale group are selected to participate based on their musical excellence and variety. The international choir visitors stay with welcoming hosts throughout the International Choral Festival, sharing friendship, food, stories, and song. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, the choirs give Missoula and the surrounding region a world of music.

Montana Public Radio presents live broadcasts and special coverage of the International Choral Festival held in Missoula July 19-22. MTPR program director Michael Marsolek, artist-in-residence Allan R. Scott, Pea Green Boat host Vicki Chaney, and guests Julia Tai and Correen Duffy will be hosts for the specials and full choir concerts broadcast live from the Dennison Theater on the University of Montana campus.

Here's the broadcast schedule of the International Choral Festival:

Wednesday July 19
4 p.m. – Live broadcast from the Dennison Theater of The Pea Green Boat with Vicki Chaney with Youth Choirs from Catalonia and Lithuania.

Thursday July 20
10 to 11 a.m. – Live broadcast from the Dennison Theater of Morning Classics with Michael Marsolek featuring choirs from Taiwan and Estonia.

Friday July 21
2 to 4 p.m. – Live broadcast from the Dennison Theater with Michael Marsolek, Allan R Scott and guests featuring choirs from Taiwan, Lithuania, and Poland.

Saturday July 22
2 to 4 p.m. – Concert broadcast (recorded from a July 20 performance) with Michael Marsolek, Allan R Scott and guests featuring choirs from Costa Rica, Germany, and Montana.

Parade of Nations Finale Concert | The Oval, University of Montana Campus
The Finale concert will feature the pageantry of the “Parade of Nations,” a choral welcome by the Missoula Mendelssohn Club under the direction of Dean Peterson, and a brief performance by each choir. It will conclude with a performance by the  International Combined Festival Choir, open seating – doors open at 6:00 pm.
