Glacier Symphony and Chorale scholarship winners announced

Young musicians receive financial incentive           

            The Glacier Symphony and Chorale awarded its annual “Wild About Music” scholarships to five deserving young music students during their season finale concert on April 30 and May 1.

The annual GSC Scholarships are part of the organizations extensive music education activities that include regular presentation of international musicians in free concerts for area 5th and 6th graders; a Symphony Musicians in the Schools program; Free Youth Tickets for masterworks concerts; an Instrument Petting Zoo and other educational outreach.

            The scholarships winners were selected from a cross section of Flathead Valley students who excel in music, including several who play in the Glacier Symphony or sing in the Chorale.

            Maybelline Green is a violin player and is a senior at Whitefish High School and has played violin with the Glacier Symphony.  She studies under Jenanne Solberg and participates in orchestra, band, jazz combo and a variety of other ensembles and bands.  Ms. Green plans to attend an orchestra camp at the MWROC Music Festival in Olathe, Kansas in the summer of 2016.

            Evan Iddings plays the cello and is a senior at Glacier High School in Kalispell.  Evan’s orchestra teacher is Sherry Simmons and he studies privately under with Jenny Rau.  Evan plays cello with the Glacier Symphony and Chorale and plans to attend Montana State University in Bozeman in the fall of 2016.

            Tommy Diegel plays the bass and is a junior at Flathead High School in Kalispell.  He participates in both orchestra and band under the direction of Sherry Simmons and Allen Slater and he studies privately with Don Beller.  Tommy is active in marching, pep, and jazz bands as well as many other bands and festivals.  He will use his scholarship to continue private lessons.

            Alyssa Bales is a violinist and a sophomore at Libby High School.  She participates in pep band on bass guitar, plays trombone in concert band and is in a number of other ensembles.  She studies under Brenda Nagode at Libby High School and takes private violin lessons from Linda Kuntz and Sally Jerde.  Alyssa will use her scholarship to attend Camp Festival Amadeus at North Valley Music School in the summer of 2016.
