Fit Kids Day planned in Montana

BIG SKY FIT KIDS DAY PLANNED STATEWIDE

The Big Sky State Games is taking registrations for the 12th Annual Big Sky Fit Kids Day May 2 - 6 throughout Montana.  Last year over 11,000 school age youth participated.   This celebration of youth fitness encourages participating schools to plan a 30-minute segment of consecutive aerobic activity with 100 percent of students participating on one day. Schools are encouraged to register for the FREE event by Friday, April 29 at www.bigskyfitkids.org under Fit Kids Day.

Participating schools with 100 percent participation will be entered in a drawing for one of three $500 awards to be used for health or physical education equipment or programs.

"The purpose of Fit Kids Day is to share the benefits of physical activity with children and demonstrate that it is easy and fun to be physically active every day," said Big Sky State Games Executive Director, Karen Sanford Gall.   "Throughout the 12 year history of the program, schools have been very creative when planning their activity and strive to make it fun for the children," she added.  Some schools hold track & field day, offer dancing, stage elaborate obstacle courses and others bring in aerobic-type instructors.

Fit Kids Day is part of the 2016 Big Sky Fit Kids program of the Big Sky State Games.  The first phase was a three-month program that will wrap up May 1.  The three-month program encouraged increased physical activity and healthy nutrition.  Participants have been logging physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption daily while receiving weekly activity and nutrition tips.  Three additional $500 award winners will be drawn from among the teams meeting minimum totals in the three-month program.
