Verdi's Requiem at MSU April 9-10

The Montana State University University Chorus, trumpet professor Sarah Stoneback and members of the MSU trumpet studio will join the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra, symphonic chorus and guest soloists for two performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem on April 9-10.

Verdi, known mostly for his grand operas such as “Rigoletto” and “La Traviata,” completed his requiem mass in 1874, inspired by the death of Italian poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni. His setting of the traditional requiem mass, or mass for the dead, is recognized as one of Verdi’s greatest works. Written for full symphony orchestra, double chorus, soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and bass soloists, with a trumpet fanfare, the piece is one of the most frequently performed major choral works today.

Performances in Bozeman will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Willson Auditorium, 404 W. Main St.
