Program helps fill Montana construction jobs

For people looking to get into the construction industry but don't have the skills, Accelerate Montana offers worksite training for entry-level employees.

Accelerate Montana said this week that registration for the Job Site Ready entry-level construction program is now open to applicants for the spring and early summer programs.

Job Site Ready addresses the training gap needs in the now-booming Montana construction sector, according to Accelerate Montana. The Job Site Ready program is designed to rapidly train, and place, individuals interested in gaining skills in the construction trade to take advantage of jobs now available in this fast-growing industry. Job Site ready programs are available at  Missoula College and Gallatin College. Missoula College registration dates are June 13-15, and Gallatin College has registration June 11-12. Additional locations will be added throughout the summer and fall, Accelerate Montana said.

Montana’s construction industry employers are especially eager to fill gaps in the entry-level workforce. Students who complete the Job Site Ready program will be prepared to take on positions that respond to this workforce need, according to Katherine Lechman, Job Site Ready program manager. Lechman said the skills the program delivers are crucial for Montana’s construction industry.

“Employers are eager to hire employees who have the skills that Job Site Ready students walk away with,” Lechman said. “We are excited to now offer valuable rapid training and expand it to locations across the state.”

ABOUT THE JOB SITE PROGRAM

Job Site Ready consists of 30-hours of online study that students can take at their own pace. After completing the online portion of the curriculum, students finish their credentials with 15-hours of on-site training. The program cost of $750 includes all instruction associated with the program, as well as a professional-grade toolkit. No prior experience or education in construction is required to enroll.

The Job Site Ready program is part of Accelerate Montana’s Rapid Training Program created to accelerate access to the kinds of professional skills training that will enable Montanans to take advantage of the economic opportunities available now.
