Blowing with the Wind
June 11, 2009



    The Harlowton Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will be hosting an Alternative Energy Conference for home and small businesses during the Montana Festival of the Wind June 21, 2009.
    The conference is designed to provide alternative energy information to individuals as well as to small businesses. A full day's activities are on tap ranging from net-metering to tax credits.
    The conference will take place at Hillcrest Elementary School in Harlowton starting at 9:30am.and will run until 4 pm, breaking for lunch.  The conference is free and open to the public. 
    A wide range of speakers and topics are on the agenda.  Representatives from Fergus Electric and Northwestern Energy will be discussing net metering and co-generation, or how to make your meter run backwards.
    Brett Wilting from Manhattan Plumbing and Heating will talk about thermal heat pumps, installation, efficiency and cost.
    Following lunch, Sarah Hamlin, from White Sulphur Springs MSU extension service, will talk on leasing your land to wind developers and what to look out for.  Scott Palmer, of Wind Power of Montana in Great Falls, will talk on the application of wind generation in home and business uses.  A wind turbine display will be set up.
    The conference will conclude with a presentation by Kathy Montgomery from the Montana State Department of Environmental Quality.  Ms. Montgomery will be talking about tax credits that are available for home and business.
    Following the conference attendees will be able to attend the Judith Gap Energy Center wind farm tour.
