The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a national program honoring outstanding young volunteers and sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), today named Montana’s top two youth volunteers of 2012:

State Honoree, High School – Iko'Tsimiskimaki Beck, 16, of Missoula
State Honoree, Middle Level – Emily Jones, 13, of Stevensville

These State Honorees, along with the top two youth volunteers from every other state and the District of Columbia, will each receive $1,000, engraved silver medallions and will be honored from May 5-8 in Washington, D.C.

The program also honored the following Montana students for their volunteer service:

Distinguished Finalist – Alekses Clifton, 18, of Great Falls
Distinguished Finalist – Josephine Lange, 13, of Corvallis

About the two State Honorees:

Iko’Tsimiskimaki (“Ekoo”), a junior at Hellgate High School, developed a program to prevent bullying and reduce prejudice among students through training workshops and after-school clubs at high schools, middle schools and elementary schools.

Emily, an eighth-grader at Ravalli Classical Academy, works with an organization that prepares and serves a free dinner every week to encourage families in her town to come and eat together.
