Summer Series for Whitefish Music Fans
June 04, 2009

Following the Whitefish Downtown Farmer's Market for the second summer, the Whitefish Theatre Company will offer four Tuesday concerts in July and August at the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish at 8 pm.

Last summer concert goers attended performances by Montana jazz singer Jeni Fleming and her trio, sellout Canadian returnees the Wailin' Jennys and two knockout groups from the Butte National Folk Festival, bluegrass favorites The Seldom Scene and Montana grown Wylie and the Wild West.

Also attending the Butte Folk Festival this year and coming to Whitefish are bluegrass prodigy Sierra Hull and Highway 111 on July 7 and on July 14 Louisiana's premiere Cajun band Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet.

A seasoned performer at 16, mandolin player and vocalist Sierra Hull, now with her own band, has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry radio and television shows and shared the stage with bluegrass legends such as Alison Krauss, IIIrd Tyme Out, Sam Bush, Mountain Heart and Ricky Skaggs. Sierra and her band will also be attending the Edmonton Folk Festival in August.

Since forming in 1975 Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet has earned multiple Grammys which have led them to their undisputed role as the most esteemed Cajun musical group in the United States. The rich Cajun traditions of Louisiana are artfully blended with elements of zydeco, New Orleans jazz, Tex-Mex, country, blues and more into their own exciting musical tradition.

For the final concert in July, Missy Raines and the New Hip take to the O'Shaughnessy Center stage. As the most decorated bass player in the history of the International Bluegrass Association, Missy has now formed her own band which has a recipe for fresh, zesty music. Start with bluegrass virtuosity; add in a jazz-tinged groove and a song-driven sensibility, and then dish it up with a hot band of young players and you have the July 21 concert.

On August 11, Grada comes to Whitefish after performing at the Edmonton Folk Festival. Based in Dublin and Galway, Grada has taken traditional Irish music forward to a new level, effortlessly blending contemporary music styles, modern songs and other forms of ethnic music with their own natural style. Traveling internationally since 2001, Grada played 120 concerts in 12 countries last year. Their stop in Whitefish finds them on their way to Nashville to cut another CD for Compass Records.

Buy all four concerts for $100. Buy three tickets to one concert, get the fourth ticket free. Individual ticket prices range from $32 to $20. Children's (12 and under) are $15 for all shows. Ticket prices are all inclusive. All seats are reserved. To purchase tickets call 862-5371 or visit www.whitefishtheatreco.org.
